Call for council perks to end while money is lost

1.18.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 5th Apr 2008

Liberal Democrats have called for an end to councillor and council perks at county hall and at Tynedale. Lib Dems have been critical of Tyndale's very generous company car scheme, which gives free cars to some officers who never used them for work mileage and also a scheme at County hall that saw top officers receive a 20% bonus for this year. "Tynedale will hand more than £15 million of our money to the new council and one of both councils major spending proposals is for additional perks. We think the two councils need to raise their game and spend more money on services and facilities!" commented Councillor Neil Bradbury
