Tories Fall apart amongst infighting

5.23.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 21st Apr 2008

In sensational scenes, the Conservatives own leader on Tynedale has not been selected to fight a seat in the forthcoming elections on the 1st May and so is standing as an independent against his own party. Across Tynedale the Tories have been subsumed in infighting with 5 (check) candidates standing against their own party. Labour has not been totally immune from this either, with two embittered councillors standing against their own party.

The Tories have always polled badly in Prudhoe and this move has been seen as many as proof of the parties inability to mount a serious challenge in May "Only the Liberal Democrats are untied in campaigning for an end to labours misrule in Northumberland. A Conservative vote is a wasted vote in Prudhoe West" said Neil Bradbury.
