Prudhoe Castle By-election triumph

12.07.54am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 10th Aug 2007

Liberal Democrats are tonight celebrating winning the by-election for Prudhoe Castle ward on the Town Council. The result was Conservatives 99 votes, Darren Levitt (Liberal Democrat) 179 votes. The vote was a pleasing one, with over 60% of voters backing Darren to work for them over the next 3 and a half years. " I will not let you down and will work hard for you" said Darren.

Existing Town Councillor Neil Bradbury commented, "The Liberal Democrats did not want this election, which has cost the council £2,000. However once the election was called it was important that the people of Prudhoe showed that the Conservatives are unacceptable to run Prudhoe. I've worked with Darren in the last Town Council and he is a welcome addition to the council. I will enjoy working with him."
