The worsening state of the Ovingham Bridge has been of concern for years. At Christmas time it was closed for repairs and it was closed again during and after flooding. Recent studies have shown the foundations of the bridge are being washed away. The bridge, which is more than a hundred years old, can only go on for so long but so far, despite repeated lobbying, the Labour run County Council has done nothing on this issue.

Local Councillor Donna Bradbury, who has been part of the campaign for better signage to Prudhoe from the A69 on Tynedale council, said "It's about time the County Council got serious plans for building a better quality replacement so that Prudhoe can have the transport links it deserves."
